RURAL GODOWN SCHEME (GRAMEEN BHANDARAN YOJANA)
Background:
Government of India launched the Grameen Bhandaran Yojana for creation of scientific storage capacity with allied facilities in rural areas to meet the requirements of farmers for storing farm produce, processed farm produce, consumer articles and agricultural inputs; promotion of grading, standardization and quality control of agricultural produce to improve their marketability; prevention of distress sale immediately after harvest, promotion of pledge financing and marketing credit and to strengthen the agricultural marketing infrastructure in the country for the introduction of national system of warehouse receipts. To make this scheme a success extensive publicity, Awareness creation skill improvement & sensitization of all stakeholders were felt necessary. Keeping this in mind, Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. of India assigned the task of creating awareness, publicity and training to the National Institute of Agricultural Marketing, Jaipur.
Awareness Creation:
To create awareness among various stakeholders about Grameen Bhandaran Yojana the scheme has been widely publicized by giving advertisements, distributing handouts, and through broadcasts TV both at national and regional programmes of Krishi Darshan. Reading material i.e. Guidelines, Pamphlets, Manuals for Training of Farmers, Entrepreneurs, Trainers, Technical Specification & Economics of Rural Godown, Scientific Storage Practices in Rural Godown etc. have also been distributed. With a view to further spread message of the scheme at grassroots level, NIAM has developed a collaboration network of agricultural institutions such as SAMETI, ATMA, ICMs, SAUs GVKs and KVKs. To sensitize various stakeholders of banks and cooperatives, Training of Trainers Programmes has also been organized in collaboration with BIRD, NCDC – TOPIC, SAMETI, KVKs etc.
