Agriculture in India is the
mainstay of the economic activity engaging two thirds of the
population and contributing nearly one third of the gross
domestic product. Although, there have been systematic and
concerted efforts supported by substantial State investments to
achieve a technological break through on the production front,
Agricultural Marketing has till recently remained very much in
the background. In recent years, Agricultural marketing in India
has assumed a crucial role in the sphere of economic development
to maintain fast pace with economic
reforms, liberalization
and globalization of the
world economy.
The National Institute of
Agricultural Marketing (NIAM) is a premier National level
Institute set up by the Government of India in August 1988
to offer specialized Training, Research, Consultancy and
Education in Agricultural Marketing. NIAM is an autonomous body
under the aegis of the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of
India. It was set up as a Registered Society to cater to the
needs of Agricultural Marketing personnel in India as well as
from South East Asian countries. The Union Minister for
Agriculture is the President of the General body of NIAM and
Secretary, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation is the
Chairman of the Executive Committee.
The Campus of the National
Institute of Agricultural Marketing is situated m a 32 acre
plot of land on the outskirts of Jaipur City. The Campus is
on National Highway No.12 connecting Jaipur with Kota. The
Campus is about 3 km from Sanganer Airport and about 15 km from
the main city. The Building Complex consists of the
Administrative Block with Library, Administrative Office,
Management Development Centre, Conference Rooms, Seminar Hall
and the Computer Centre. The Hostel Block has 50 rooms with
attached bathrooms for providing comfortable residential fatties
to students / trainees / participants of training, workshop,
etc. A Gamest House with four suites has also been constructed
with all modern
VISION
"The National Institute of Agricultural Marketing (NIAM),
Jaipur should be the nodal agency for implementation
of training, extension and research programmes in
Agricultural Marketing. The Institute should coordinate
research activities in collaboration with State
Agricultural Universitites, State Agricultural Marketing
Boards, Directorate of Marketing, Ministry of Agriculture
& Cooperation and international agencies involved in
promoting agricultural marketing." |
